The rule of mim sukun is a tajwid reading rule that applies when mim sukun (\(\)) meets other Hijaiyah letters, which are divided into three types: Idgham Mitslain (or Idgham Mimi) if it meets mim (\(\)), Ikhfa’ Syafawi if it meets ba (\(\)), and Izhar Syafawi if it meets letters other than mim and ba. Each has a different pronunciation, namely nasalized, muffled, or clear.
